The St. Louis, MO Chapter, with their Self-Determination Committee, headed by Brother Eugene Frison, Sr. held a Pre-Reparation Awareness Day Observance Celebration on Sat. The Chicago, IL Chapter of N'COBRA under the leadership of Adjoa Barbara Baker & Kamm Howard also held events around Reparations Awareness Day Events. Three of the Chicago Chapters experts on Reparations appeared on Cable TV21 program called 'I Got Something To Say' that aired Sun. Feb. 14, and again on Sun. Feb.28.
The panelist for this show were Adjoa Barbara Baker, World traveler and Activist for Human Rights, the Midwest Region Representative of N'COBRA, co chairperson Chicago Chapter; Kamm Howard, co chair of Chicago Chapter N'COBRA and co chair of Legislative Commissioner for N'COBRA; and Mansong Kulubally, active member of Chicago Chapter N'COBRA and Cultural Worker.
The Chicago Chapter regularly meets at the Washington Park Field House, 5531 S. King Drive, Chicago 2PM - 4PM every 4th Sunday of the month. At our Feb.28th meeting, our focus was an update on the HR40 initiative. This initiative includes: a) and online petition seeking Senator Roland Burris to co-author a Senate companion bill to HR 40 ( you can go to www.ncobra.org to sign on; b) increasing the number of congressional co-sponsors to HR40; c) the 40,0000 for HR40 education and organizing campaign; and d) the Reparations for Afro-Descendants Vote for Change online competition.
We also discussed the 2 groups who have received reparations since President Obama has been in office - Native Americans, $3.4 Billion and Black Farmers, $1.4 Billion.
Although Reparation Awareness Month and Black History month ended on Feb 28th, the Chicago Chapter will continue Awareness activity in March during Women's History Month with an emphasis on the Freedom's Sisters exhibit at the DuSable Museum of African History. www.dusablemuseum.org
Joe Epps and Kamau Jywanza of the Indianapolis Chapter re-activated the Chapter by bringing in new and old activist and supporters. In addition, they heavily promoted the Reparations for Afro-Descendants Vote for Change online competition. Kamau can reach at 317 353 7765 or jywanzak@yahoo.com.
